The course levels for language learning

The Common European Frame of Reference (CEFR) establishes the following levels of language learning:

A: Basic User

A1: basic communication is possible
A2: routine situations can be navigated with relative ease

B: Independent User

B1: You can understand the main points of texts on familiar matters. You can give simplified summaries about topics of everyday life, and get by in day-to-day situations at work and in private life.
B2: you can communicate well in a variety of situations. In oral and written communication, you still need some assistance.

C: Proficient User

C1: you can express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions.
C2 : you can express yourself spontaneously, very fluently, and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations.

To best ascertain your language level, please take advantage of our free level-assessment service.

our teachers

Eda
Eda

Though she was born and raised in Berlin, Eda is constantly surprised at all that Germany’s capital has to offer. As she says, it’s a city of almost limitless possibilities. We have her school biology teacher to thank that she became a teacher in our school, because he always created attractive and interesting lessons. We’re glad to have her as a teacher!

Claire
Claire

Claire has been a teacher at Lernwerk since 2015. When she’s not teaching lessons and influencing the lives of her students for the better, she likes to paint pictures and help children in Africa.

Carina
Carina

Carina is a real Berlin fan. The things she likes most about the capital are the culture, the music and the chaos. With her Italian temperament and vibrant sense of humor, she has been sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with students here since 2013.

Vanessa
Vanessa

Vanessa, another genuine Berliner, has been at Lernwerk since 2016. Her role model was her home-room teacher in elementary school, who was so great that Vanessa couldn’t help but become a teacher!

Brian
Brian

Our US import from Florida! Brian has been a teacher at Lernwerk since 2016. When asked why he likes being a teacher, he said, “The great thing about being a teacher is that you can see how the students get better and better and improve their self-confidence.”

Friederike
Friederike

This genuine Berliner has been with us since 2014. She teaches because she finds it an “incredibly important and meaningful” job. Sometimes she thinks she’d also like to save the world, try out working construction or be an illustrator. As far as we’re concerned she’s already great at illustrations.
